What is all this Blog Nonsense?! I don't understand!

Welcome to Sluglife 2.0!
If you know Anna and Jordy, then you're in the right place. If you don't know them, well, you might be a bit confused.
We live in Guerneville, California a stones throw from the Russian river. We have cats, we have fish, and likely more animals to add to our menagerie in the not-so-distant future.
What is a "Blog"?
Blog is short for web log, and it can be thought of simply as an online diary. If you are familiar with the original version of Sluglife.net then you will no doubt remember the Sluglife Diaries. This blog is essentially those diaries but in a format where we can easily update them, you can comment on them, and we can generally add more content in a dynamic fashion.
How do I comment on a post?
It's quite simple. When you get to the end of a post, there's a bit of information including when it was posted as well as a number of buttons including...wait for it... "Comments". Click on there and you'll get to see all the comments other people have made, and at the end of it there's a little form to add your own 2 cents. After you fill in the information and hit "Post" it may not appear right away -- we have to approve the comment. Please don't think we're really "approving" of your post or not -- you'd be amazed at how many spams and bogus posts get in here. We're just trying to make sure the comments really are comments and not advertisements for male enhancement drugs.
Questions?
Please feel free to email us any questions you may have at riverslugs at yahoo dot com
Why didn't you just put the email address there?
There are bots that troll blogs looking for email addresses so they can spam them. If I put bob@bob.net, I guarantee you that whoever has bob@bob.net is going to receive a whole lotta spam as a result of me typing that address here. By spelling it out it makes our spam intake a lot less.

Our Disclaimer (aka, This Is Who We Are)

This disclaimer is intended as a warning that we are people. That's the short way of saying we can be obnoxious, profane, disgusting, revealing, brutally honest, horribly naive, and staggeringly funny -- often in the space of one sentence. This blog is us with warts.
While our "gradschool diaries" captured us as freshly-married, struggling strangers in a strange land, this blog finds us in a not-nearly-as-strange land and definitely no longer newly married (can you believe it’s been over five years?!).
So reader beware: we will swear (sometimes liberally), profess heartily (sometimes liberally, too), and live really. If something makes you uncomfortable, it’s probably good for you. Feel free to comment on any post, but if you really dislike what we write, sorry. Consider yourself warned.

Thankful

I am thankful for life.

Thankful for my body, because it was strong this year. I love its changing shape, the way scars and stretch marks run down it like rain on a windowpane.

I am thankful for my family. If a family cares, consoles, challenges, comforts, teaches, then I have a spectacular one, even if we look ordinary from the outside.

I am thankful for J. If we are a ship, then he is the mast and I the sail, and I know that I am free to follow the wind wherever it might lead me, because my unsteady shape, my billowing, fey nature is grounded onto something tall, and quiet, and steady.

I am thankful for my cats, who would not leave my side when I needed them most. Cats love as people love-rushing forward, retreating, aloof, playful. Perhaps dogs are easier because we mistake their loyalty for true love. Perhaps cats are harder because they remind us of ourselves.

I am thankful for my home in the forest. I have never belonged to a place more completely.

I am thankful for my friends, for reasons that they know. Especially Rachel. For reasons that she knows.

I am thankful that we will make the car ride down to our families tomorrow, passing other cars from which heads covered in all shades of hair will bob around us like flowers in a thousand pots.

Be thankful-life has kissed you for another year. Kiss it back.
